Cordage, community and maybe a little coffee?

Join us during the summer months, as we gather around the table to engage in a form of making that has been around since the beginning of humans - something like 50,000 years. When more intricate forms of making seem a bridge too far, sinking back into the simple, practical, soothingly repetitive task of making cordage can feel like a cool drink of water.

What is cordage? Cordage is a broad term for what is essentially rope or string. Made by twisting short, weaker fibers into a strong, cohesive strand, cordage making is creative community magic - transforming what feels like nothing into something powerfully useful. Plant fibers are a great place to start (we'll be using corn husks), but we encourage participants to bring materials to experiment with.

Need some ideas? Thin strips of old fabric can be used to make necklaces, bag handles or material to crochet and knit with, single use plastic bags can become a crocheted bag or basket, even paper bags and packaging can be transformed.

Creative Cordage is for participants ages 10+.  No experience or special tools are needed, just your hands and the willingness to trust their innate knowing. Participants are welcome to bring snacks and beverages and hop out of the session as needed.
