About the event

There's so much beauty in making things with your hands, and even more so when transforming scraps and bits that we'd otherwise overlook or toss away into objects of use and beauty.  This workshop is the first of what we are calling Community Offerings.  Each Community Offering is pay-what-you-can and taught by a member of our local community.  Participants are asked to bring salvaged/recycled materials to use and share.  Each participant will walk away with a made object, some new skills and hopefully, inspiration for continued making.

---

We've been making cordage and coiled baskets for a while at our shop and are excited to share these skills and our unending enthusiasm for them around our workshop table.  Cordage and coiled baskets utilize twining and wrapping techniques to create strength and unity from soft, and sometimes disparate materials.  During this full-day session, participants will make their own cordage and a coiled basket from gathered plant materials, just in time for adding a very personal touch to their homes for the holidays.  Garden enthusiasts may also appreciate a tangible reminder of this year's growing season.

Participants are asked to bring plant material, such as perennial grasses and bulb leaves from their (or a friendly neighbor's) garden to use for the class (Instructions and additional information is included in the confirmation email).  Materials will need to be cut before the end of the growing season and dried for a least a week or two to be ready to use for this class session.   We'll have some gathered material to share.  All other materials to make coiled baskets will be provided.

No experience is necessary.  Participants are welcome to bring snacks and beverages and hop out of the session as needed after the first hour.  Basket making times can vary, some participants may finish early, others may need to add finishing touches after the session.

SUGGESTED FEE (Pay-what-you-can)  $45-$125 / participant

Similar classes are priced from $100-$125.
